Breakthrough in talks on IMF payments to Latvia

The Latvian government announced in the beginning of June that Latvia will undertake budget cuts of 500 million lats a year to meet the requirements for further payments from the previously decided upon rescue package of 7.5 billion euros from the IMF, the EU and Sweden. Bank shares soared on the news and the Swedish krona strengthened as fear of an imminent devaluation eased..
