ADR - American Depositary Receipt
The American investment bank JP Morgan has in collaboration with Swedbank established an American Depositary Receipts (ADR) programme in the US. This makes it easier for investors in the US to invest in Swedbank shares. For example, the investor does not need to register at VPC or buy SEK to invest in the Swedbank share. In brief, JP Morgan registers as shareholder at VPC. They then issue a number of ADRs each representing a part of the underlying shareholding in Swedbank. These ADRs can thereafter be traded on the US market, and both the asset and the dividend are denominated in USD.
