Swedbank has signed the UN Global Compact, an initiative launched to promote socially and environmentally responsible enterprise worldwide. It contains ten principles concerning human rights, labour standards, the environment and anti-corruption.
The Swedbank Group also supports the United Nations Environmental Program for the financial sector, a global partnership between the United Nations Environment Programme and the financial sector.
Swedbank is cooperating with other savings banks in Europe and elsewhere in the world through membership in the European Savings Banks Group (ESBG) and the World Savings Banks Institute (WSBI). Both organisations are engaged in a variety of social projects in Europe and the rest of the world.
Swedbank also supports the international Carbon Disclosure Project, whose objective is to induce the largest corporations in the world to limit emissions of greenhouse gases.
In 2003, Swedbank became the first publicly traded bank in the Nordic countries to have its Swedish operations environmentally certified according to the international environmental standard, ISO 14001.
Swedbank Robur's unit-linked funds and management assignments are certified in accordance with the Global Investment Performance Standard.
Swedbank’s operations are regularly analysed by SRI analysts so that Swedbank share can be recommended as a socially responsible investment (SRI). The bank is included on indexes including the FTSE4Good.
The Ethibel indexes consists of companies showing, on the basis of Viego ratings, the most outstanding scores in terms of social and environmental sustainability and meeting the ethical criteria establishes by the independent organisation Forum Ethibel.
The bank received a total company score of 64 out of 100 in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index in 2007. A minimum score of 66 was required to be included in the index. The corresponding figures were 63 points in 2006 and 61 points in 2005. We are proud to have increased our score every year and will continue our work to get better and better.
