Community involvement in Lithuania

In 2006, Swedbank in Lithuania, together with the LNK television channel and Vilnius University, initiated the National Advancement Awards. The aim of the three annual awards, granted in the areas of Science, Partnership and Culture, is to recognise and reward those individuals who contribute most to progress in Lithuania, to expand long-term relations between science and business, and to encourage the business community to contribute to Lithuania’s intellectual, cultural and social development. Named “Lithuania’s Nobel Prize” by the local press, the project was very well received and appreciated by Lithuanian society.

In 2005, Swedbank in Lithuania initiated the project "Green City" aimed at planting as many trees, flowers and other plants as there are employees in Swedbank in Lithuania – over 3,000. We seek to contribute to making Lithuanian towns even greener, thus improving the environment and making a positive contribution to the history of each town. From the start of the campaign, over 6,000 trees, bushes and other plants have already been planted in 20 towns all over Lithuania.

Hansa Leasing in Lithuania helps people acquire new and safe vehicles. In addition, Hansa Leasing has started Traffic School, an educational project aimed at teaching children how to stay safe on the roads. The project involves school children of 9-10 years of age, who participate in simulated traffic situations with a specially prepared car. Since the launch of the project in 2005, the team of Traffic School instructors has visited over 350 schools in Lithuania and more than 9,000 school children have taken part in the safety training sessions.
