Leadership quality and Swedbank’s ability to train good managers are key success factors for the company.

Managers at Swedbank understand the bank’s business, take the initiative and care about customers. Managers develop the bank’s employees and consider the group’s best interests.

Swedbank fulfils its leadership needs through a structured long-term process whereby management positions shall consistently be staffed by competent leaders – the right person in the right place. The purpose is to secure competent leadership at all levels within the group. The management recruitment process shall stimulate potential and established managers to further their individual growth and shall also enhance gender equality in the group’s management.

Management recruitment is based on an open internal labour market in which vacant management positions are advertised

Leadership programme

The first group-wide leadership programme was offered in 2006. Participants from Sweden, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Russia received training in how to rise to strategic positions within the group. In addition, senior leaders in the various countries took part in management seminars during the year. By working together, leaders from these countries are building a platform for dialogue, a strong group and a strong position in their markets.

Swedbank’s leadership programmes are designed to broaden the base of future leaders and improve the skills of current leaders.
