International Banking

International Banking is responsible for fulfilling and implementing Swedbank's international strategy on emerging markets outside our present home markets. This includes developing current international businesses, analysing new international markets, and establishing and/or acquiring presences there.

The International Banking business segment conducts banking operations in Ukraine, Russia, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Luxembourg and Japan.

In Ukraine OJSC Swedbank is the 13th largest bank when it comes to lending and one of the fastest growing in the private sector. The bank has more than 190 branches, 3,300 employees, over 164,000 private customers and 17,000 corporate customers.

In the Russian market, the bank OAO Swedbank operates branches in Moscow, St. Peterburg and Kaliningrad. The focus is on corporations and their employees, with emphasis on major and medium-sized companies.

International Banking also plays a role in enhancing Swedbank's presence in the Nordic countries through branches. These branches primarily work with domestic customers in their respective markets, but naturally also support Swedbank’s home markets through cross border transactions. The Danish branch has many private individuals as customers, to date mainly commuters living in Sweden and working in Denmark. The Norwegian branch is also expanding into the private market, serving certain target groups. The Finnish branch serves as a link for Finnish companies conducting business in or with Russia and the Baltic States, in addition to their domestic/Nordic operations.

In addition to the above, International Banking is responsible for Private Banking and fund administration operations at Swedbank S.A. in Luxembourg. Swedbank’s representative offices in Ukraine and Japan belong to International Banking.
