We acknowledge that climate change is one of society’s greatest challenges. Research shows that an increased concentration of greenhouse gases warms the planet and creates substantial risks for both prosperity and growth.
As a financial player, we have an important role to play to accelerate the transition to a sustainable low carbon economy. We therefore integrate climate considerations into our lending process, investment process, customer dialogue and business operations.
Swedbank has a group-wide approach to climate change; we reduce our exposure to coal in both investments and financing, we continue to encourage portfolio companies and corporate clients to improve their climate management as well as measure and disclose the carbon footprint of investment portfolios and we work to minimize our operational environmental impact and our carbon emission.
In 2003 the Swedish operations implemented an Environmental Management System (EMS), which is certified according to the international standard ISO 14001, which is the basis of our climate goals. In 2017 we will adopt our EMS according to the new standard ISO 14001:2015.
Swedbank's Climate Goals
- Swedbank will reduce the carbon emissions by 60 per cent by 2018 (based on the 2010 level) by increasing the share of renewable energy, improving energy efficiency and steering travelling towards more environmentally friendly alternatives.
- Swedbank will reduce the indirect climate impacts by supporting customers in making sustainable choices.
- By integrating sustainability in business decisions Swedbank will reduce the indirect climate impacts.
