Transition Finance Framework

By offering transition financing, Swedbank is able to support the climate transition even within sectors where green alternatives are not yet available to a sufficient extent.

Swedbank's Transition Finance Framework complements the Swedbank Sustainable Funding Framework and describes the bank's approach to identifying and financing activities and technologies that clearly contribute to the climate transition but cannot yet be classified as green, particularly within emission-intensive sectors that lack fully green alternatives. Swedbank's overarching objective is to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 and to align its lending and investment portfolios with the Paris agreement, and the framework aims to identify and enable financing of activities that are necessary for the climate transition.

The framework covers five sectors – buildings, power generation, iron and steel production, shipping and agriculture – which have been selected as they are emission intensive, hard to abate and/or represent a significant share of Swedbank's exposure, together with a number of cross-sector activities.

Loans that meet the criteria in the Transition Finance Framework are included in Swedbank's sustainable financing volumes, together with loans meeting the criteria in the Sustainable Funding Framework and Swedbank's sustainability-linked loans.
